Mansfield Mayor

The Mayor is elected directly by the citizens and serves for two year terms. The Mayor officially speaks for both the government and the community as a whole. The Mayor is the presiding officer and a regular member of the city council, and has all the powers and duties for the office of council member in addition to those of mayor.

Here are your city council members who are elected to represent your voice in the Mansfield city council. The Council fulfills the legislative functions of the city, crafting ordinances and developing policies. They are also tasked with establishing the overall direction of the city and providing general direction to the city manager.

It is important the city council represents and advocates for the community’s diverse beliefs and values to serve ALL residents in Mansfield.

  • Elected to two or four year terms either by district or at-large.
  • Responsible for appointing a city-manager.
  • Responsible for drafting and passing legislation and city ordinances.

Qualifications

Here are the qualifications for what it takes to run for the City Council.

Resident of the City

for at least 12 consecutive months

Qualified voter

of the State of Texas

Can't hold any other public office

of emolument except as permitted by the Texas Constitution.

No person shall be eligible to the office of councilmember

who shall be interested in the profits or the emolument of any contract job, work or service for the city, or interested in the sale to the city of any supplies, equipment, material or articles purchased.
